Terms of Use
These are the rules for using Walnut, at easywalnut.com and in Walnut for Windows. By making an account or using Walnut, you agree to them. They’re written to be read, so please do.

Who we are
Walnut is run by an individual based in Qatar (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [email protected]. How we handle your data is in the Privacy Policy.
Who can use Walnut
- You must be at least 13 years old.
- If the law where you live sets a higher age for using an online service like Walnut without a parent’s consent (16 in some EU countries), you must be that age.
- If you’re under 18, read these terms with a parent or guardian.
- You can’t use Walnut if we’ve closed your account for breaking these terms, unless we tell you that you can.
Your account
- Use an email address that’s yours. We use it to confirm your account and reset your password.
- Keep your password to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens on your account, so tell us straight away if you think someone else got into it.
- Don’t pick a username or display name that pretends to be someone else or is meant to offend. We may change or take back a name that does.
A free service that changes
Walnut is free. We may add, change or remove features, set limits (such as how many people fit in a Walnut or how big a file can be), or stop offering Walnut. If we decide to shut Walnut down, we’ll try to give notice so you can ask for a copy of your data.
A Walnut closes by itself 24 hours after the last person leaves, and its room chat is deleted. Walnut isn’t a place to keep things: save your own copy of anything that matters.
What you may not do
Don’t use Walnut, including the room’s TV, screen sharing, videos played in sync, voice, messages and files, to:
- break the law, or help anyone else break it;
- stream, play, share or link to anything you don’t have the right to share, including pirated films, shows, sports, music, games or software;
- get around copy protection (DRM), a site’s paywall or sign-in, or a regional restriction;
- harass, bully, threaten, stalk or intimidate anyone, or encourage others to;
- attack people for who they are, such as their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender or sexual orientation;
- share sexual content involving anyone under 18. We remove it, close the account and report it to the authorities;
- share sexual or intimate images of anyone without their consent, or show sexual or graphically violent content to people who haven’t agreed to see it;
- share someone’s private information without their permission, or record or rebroadcast other people in a Walnut without their consent;
- pretend to be someone else, or a company or organisation;
- send spam, scams, phishing or malware;
- attack, overload or break into Walnut, use bots or scripts to make accounts or flood it, or get around its limits. If you find a security problem, please tell us instead;
- use the TV to attack, scan or break into other systems, or for anything else that would get Walnut’s internet connection blocked or reported.
The room’s TV and screen sharing
- The TV browses the web from Walnut’s internet connection, or from the owner’s PC when they host it with Walnut for Windows. You’re responsible for what you open and do on it, and each site’s own terms apply.
- Everyone in the Walnut sees the TV and any screen you share. Don’t sign in to accounts on the TV, or show anything in a share, that you don’t want the room to see.
- Some sites protect their video with DRM or refuse to work in a shared browser. Walnut doesn’t try to get around that, and you mustn’t either.
- We may switch off a room’s TV, stop a site from opening on it, or turn off the TV feature altogether, to keep Walnut working or within the law.
- Handing someone your remote in Walnut for Windows lets them use your PC’s mouse and keyboard. Only allow people you trust; Ctrl+Alt+Backspace takes control back at once.
Your content
What you post on Walnut stays yours. So that Walnut can work, you give us permission to store, copy, process, send and show it to the people you share it with, for as long as it’s on Walnut. You’re responsible for what you share, and you confirm you have the right to share it.
We don’t watch Walnuts or read messages as a matter of course, and calls and screens aren’t recorded. We may look at content that’s reported to us, or when the law or someone’s safety requires it, and remove anything that breaks these terms.
Copyright and takedowns
Walnut doesn’t host films or shows; people choose what they open and share. If you believe something on Walnut infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with “Copyright” in the subject, and include:
- your name and how to contact you;
- the work you believe is infringed;
- where it is on Walnut (a username, a Walnut’s code, or a message or file link) and, for something shown live, when it happened, in enough detail for us to find it;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use isn’t authorised by the owner, their agent or the law;
- a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the rights or may act for the owner;
- your physical or electronic signature.
We remove or disable what appears to infringe and tell the person who posted it. If your content was removed and you believe that was a mistake, reply with your reasons (a counter-notice) and we’ll consider restoring it. We close the accounts of people who infringe again and again.
Reporting and blocking
You can block or report anyone in Walnut. A Walnut’s owner and managers can mute people, remove them, and lock or password-protect the Walnut. To tell us about anything that breaks these terms, including safety and copyright concerns, email [email protected].
Ending your account
- You can stop using Walnut at any time and ask us to delete your account by emailing [email protected] from the address on it.
- We may remove content, limit what an account can do, or suspend or close it, if it breaks these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other people or Walnut. Where it’s safe and lawful, we’ll tell you why, and you can reply to ask us to look again.
Walnut for Windows
You may install Walnut for Windows on your own computers to use Walnut. It checks easywalnut.com for updates and installs them. The installer isn’t code-signed yet, so Windows may warn you the first time; download it only from easywalnut.com/download.
Provided as is
Walnut is free and provided “as is” and “as available”. We work to keep it running and secure, but we can’t promise it will always be available, free of errors, or that your content won’t be lost. To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties, express or implied, including that Walnut is fit for a particular purpose.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data or lost profits, or for what other people do or share on Walnut or on sites opened in it. Because Walnut is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to 50 US dollars.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or takes away your rights as a consumer under the law of the country where you live.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, the date at the top changes, and for changes that matter we’ll tell you by email or on this site before they take effect. If you keep using Walnut after that, the new terms apply; if you don’t agree with them, stop using Walnut and ask us to delete your account.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Qatar. If you live in a country whose consumer laws give you rights that can’t be waived, such as in the EU or the UK, you keep those rights, and you can bring a claim in the courts where you live.
